I am thrilled to announce that on May 5, 2025, I will officially be elected to membership with the PGA of America! This milestone is not just an incredible achievement for me personally; it symbolizes my commitment to the game of golf and my passion for teaching the next generation of players.
The PGA of America has a rich history, having started back in 1916 as the Professional Golfers' Association of America. The inaugural meeting took place at the Hotel Martinique in New York City, a landmark moment that would set the stage for the growth and development of golf across the nation. Staying at the Hotel Martinique during my journey was special; I couldn’t help but feel the weight of history and the legacy of the countless professionals who have gathered there over the years.
As I worked through the course materials and requirements to achieve this membership, I was continually impressed by the quality of education and support provided by the PGA. The Philadelphia PGA section, in particular, is an outstanding organization that has fostered a sense of community and collaboration among its members. Under the leadership of Executive Director Geoff Surrette, the staff has done an amazing job in promoting golf and supporting professionals throughout the region. Their dedication and passion for the sport are evident in every program and initiative they undertake.
I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to those who have played crucial roles in my journey. If it wasn’t for my grandfather, grandmother, Eddie Gregorczyk, and so many others, I probably would never have touched a golf club. A special thank you to Cleve Coldwater, who taught me the game and gave me my first golf lesson. Cleve, you have been like another father to me, cultivating a love for the sport that I may have never discovered without your influence. I would also like to acknowledge Kevin Kurcoba, another PGA member who helped me along this journey. Moreover, my mentors Michael Little and Michael Jacobs were instrumental in guiding me; without these two amazing individuals, I might never have joined this organization. For all of you, I will forever owe my success both on and off the course.
For anyone thinking about pursuing PGA membership, I can’t emphasize enough what an incredible opportunity it is to enter the golf business. The program offers three distinct tracks to choose from:
1. Teaching and Coaching (my track): This path focuses on developing skills to become an effective instructor and mentor, helping players of all levels improve their game.
2. Executive Management: This track prepares you for leadership roles within golf facilities and organizations, focusing on business strategies and team management.
3. Golf Operations: This path covers the essential aspects of running golf courses, including customer service, marketing, and event management.
There are three levels of extensive book work that must be completed to achieve PGA membership. My journey took me two years and two months, and I am so proud to soon join the ranks of over 31,000 members and associates. The PGA motto is “Serve the Member and Grow the Game,” and I am fully committed to embodying this principle as I move forward in my career.
This journey has been about more than just hitting the books; it has also been about connecting with fellow professionals, sharing experiences, and fostering a love for golf that we all cherish. Our game is so perfectly imperfect in so many ways, and I love the fact that it mirrors life. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a vibrant community that is dedicated to the growth of the game and the success of its players.
As I look forward to May 5, 2025, I am filled with excitement and gratitude for the path that has led me here. Joining the PGA of America is a dream come true and a significant step in my journey as a golf coach. I can’t wait to contribute to the game that I love and to help others reach their full potential on the course.
If you’re passionate about golf and considering a career in this amazing industry, I highly encourage you to explore the PGA membership opportunities. It could be the start of an exciting new chapter for you as it is for me!
Stay tuned for more updates as I embark on this chapter with the PGA of America!
